The EGVGA invites you to the European Championship and Pumpkin Convention 10–11 October 2009 at the castle in Ludwigsburg (outside Stuttgart), Germany.
Saturday 10th October
15.00 Guest speaker Jos Ghaye will do a presentation about how to grow giant pumpkins.
16.30 Guided tour of the castle.
19.00 Dinner at the castle park, special prices in the restaurant on food and drinks. This will be a great time to meet other growers from all over Europe and exchange seeds.
Sunday 11th October
The day of the Championship and weigh off.
Between 9.00 and 13.00 you can bring your pumpkin/giant vegetables to the competition.
The weigh off begins with other giant vegetables like marrows, tomatoes, long gourds, sunflowers and giant corn etc. Take the chance to get an official weight/length on your giant vegetables.
At 14.00 the pumpkin weighing begins.
Prize money in the pumpkin class:
1st 1500 Euro
2nd 500 Euro
3rd 300 Euro
4th 250 Euro
5th 200 Euro
6th - 10th 100 Euro
To receive the prize money for the pumpkins 1, 2 and 3 you have to leave your pumpkin for exhibition at the castle. After the pumpkin is cut open you will get 75% of the seeds back.
In case of 700kg another 1,000 Euros on top for the winner pumpkin. If we don’t have any that big there will be a special prize for the pumpkin that beat the last year’s Ludwigsburg record: 610.5kg.
The EGVGA will sponsor the member of the EGVGA with the biggest pumpkin from each country with an extra 100 Euros. If the grower doesn’t want to or cannot come, the second will get the opportunity to get the money.
Jucker Farmart, that holds the competition together with us, will also add 100 Euros to the grower with the biggest pumpkin from each country. They will also pay one hotel night for every country champ.
Of course everyone is welcome to join the competition no matter how big your pumpkin is.
